Alex launches campaign to tackle Gloucester’s empty shops

Now that summer has ended, Parliament is back in full swing, but representing Gloucester never takes a break. Throughout August and September, I have been out across the constituency, listening to your concerns, meeting community organisations, and witnessing the incredible efforts happening at the local level.

One recurring issue I have heard is the growing number of empty shops in Gloucester city centre. A thriving high street is the heartbeat of our community, and small, independent businesses are its lifeblood.

That’s why I’m launching my empty shops campaign, to support our traders and encourage future business owners to invest in our city centre. I’m working with colleagues in the Labour Group on Gloucester City Council to put forward workable solutions to revitalise our Gate Streets and make Gloucester city centre a destination again.

As part of my campaign, I recently met with the Association of Convenience Stores to explore how local shops can help reinvigorate our local economy.

I will continue working closely with my Labour colleagues on Gloucester City Council to develop initiatives that attract new businesses, and ensure our retailers have the support they need to flourish.
