Gloucester Futures
Inspiring confidence, competence and curiosity in the next generation
10th-14th August 2026
I am pleased to announce a new initiative to support the young people of Gloucester in exploring their futures. This summer, between 10th and 14th August, we will be offering a fully funded week-long programme working with local businesses to develop skills and discover different industries, from the BBC to Fasthosts - with a trip to London and the Houses of Parliament.
This structured programme explores skills and industries, such as speech writing, broadcast journalism and management apprenticeships, with the guidance of industry professionals. Hosted by businesses around Gloucester, this is a fantastic opportunity to learn about employment prospects in the city and give that extra guidance to young people who do want to work and learn but lack support and confidence.
Gloucester is a vibrant city with lots to offer and by working with local businesses, we can help young people see this. Moreover, this is a fantastic and proactive opportunity to tackle the rising problem of young people not in education, employment or training (Neets); there are nearly 1 million 16–24-year-old Neets in Britain, the third highest amongst the European members of the OECD, and 12.8 per cent of this age group.
