£220,000 for more accessible food in Gloucester
I'm really pleased to see Gloucester selected as one of just 45 local authorities across England to benefit from the Government's new £10 million Good Food Neighbourhoods Programme.
This funding will help support local, community-led projects that make healthy, affordable food more accessible to the people who need it most. That could mean initiatives such as community food shops, mobile greengrocers, lunch clubs, community kitchens, and cooking and nutrition programmes tailored to local needs.
Too many families are facing the pressures of rising costs, and we know that access to healthy food isn't just about affordability - it's also about availability. This investment recognises that local communities are best placed to develop solutions that work for their area.
Every participating council will receive funding to strengthen local food support, improve health outcomes, reduce isolation, and help build more resilient communities for the long term.
I'm looking forward to seeing how Gloucester can make the most of this opportunity and continue the fantastic work already being done by local organisations, volunteers and community groups to support residents across our city
