Employment Rights Act

Last week in Gloucester

Employment Rights Act

Last year, the government passed its flagship Employment rights. It came in force last week, and there are three key takeaways:

  1. Paternity leave can be taken from day 1 in your job

  2. Sick pay from day 1 of being ill

  3. Employers must take reasonable steps regarding sexual harassment

Out in the city

It’s been a very busy week for me in the constituency!

Brilliant to visit Ethical Addictions Coffee Roasters at their roaster. I've enjoyed a cup of their coffee at loads of different events in Gloucester, and they supply some of our fantastic independents too. Great to see their process and learn more about all the work that goes into producing sustainable, ethical coffee

I also paid a visit to residents at Voyage Care on London Road recently to talk to them and the staff about care for people living with an acquired brain injury. Voyage Care have particular experience supporting people with physical disabilities and memory impairment and prioritise a rehabilitative approach. We had a great conversation, including around the support provided to ensure residents can play an active role in their community.

It was great to join the Wednesday exercise and lunch club organised by Ebony Carers at the All Nations Club last week. Keeping active as we get older is vital and is something which I have been working on as a member of the Health and Social Care Select Committee in Parliament. They have now expanded the exercise class to two sessions before lunch - last week saltfish and ackee was on the menu. Thank you for inviting me to join!
