Free travel 24/7 for disabled people in Gloucester!
I’m really pleased to share that from April 2027, disabled people will be able to use their free bus passes 24/7.
Right now, disabled bus passes are only valid between 9:30am and 11pm on weekdays, unless a local authority chooses to extend the hours. Some areas have already lifted the restrictions but others haven’t, leaving people with a completely different service depending on where they live. This change finally ends that postcode lottery.
It also gives disabled people far more freedom and flexibility. I’ve heard from constituents who struggle to get to work before 9:30, or who want to travel early to medical appointments, or simply see friends and family outside the current hours. Being able to use your pass at any time of day will make a real difference to people’s independence and quality of life.
Importantly, this policy is fully funded within existing DfT and DWP budgets - no new spending required. A small change on paper, but a big step forward for accessibility, fairness and everyday freedom
