Maternity experiences in Gloucester

I have met with too many parents in Gloucester who have not had a positive experience with the maternity services at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. Some of their experiences (including devastatingly the loss of some babies) have been harrowing and have left deep scars and trauma on them and their wider families. I am pleased that the government is undertaking a comprehensive review of maternity services including a particular focus on Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and meeting with families in Gloucester. The findings of Baroness Amos' review will be published in the coming months, but early indications are that there will be hundreds of recommendations.

When the Health Secretary Wes Streeting gave evidence to the Health and Social Care Select Committee before Christmas, I asked him to commit to implementing the findings of the upcoming maternity review in full. I also asked him to assure us that he and his team are putting plans in place to ensure ICBs and hospitals are able to implement changes with the necessary speed.
